Friends of Foxborough Flagpole

Donation protected
The American flag, so proudly flown in the very center of our community, reaffirms the faith of our Founding Fathers that a new government of, by and for the people, could be the hope of a new nation which endures today. Our citizens have proudly served under that flag each time our nation has called and many who see it in passing are descendants of people who came to this country for the promise of a new life that it offered. From the very first time young children speak the words of our Pledge of Allegiance to every time we renew that pledge at a public gathering, our hearts swell with pride as we honor that flag that has become a symbol of hope to so many around the world.

Today, we face the reality that the 100-foot pole must be replaced, and soon.  To do so will require between $45,000 and $50,000.   The Friends of the Foxborough Flagpole seek to raise these funds through a community fundraising drive,  following in the footsteps  of the founders of this community.

Foxborough has a longstanding tradition of private citizens volunteering time and funding to improve our community.  In 1857,  a group of private citizens stepped forward to lay out “their” Common as we know it today.  Similarly,  in 1971-72 we turned to the private sector once again to raise funds to secure a pattern and fabricate new sections for the Common fence. Exceeding its goal, that community effort also led to replacement of the original lanterns on the Common, a bronze tablet on the World War II memorial.  Years later, private donations led to illuminating all the memorials at night so that darkness never falls upon the names of those who served our country so proudly in the military as well as our fire and police departments.

Such an effort speaks to the very core of who and what we are as a community.  By reaching out to the general public, every individual who pledges allegiance to that flag, who has served under that flag or who believes in the strength and hope of the nation it represents, can be part of this effort.

Stand tall, and take your place in the long line of citizens, servicemen and women, veterans, public servants and first responders, the clubs and organizations, community groups, churches and members of the business community as we renew our commitment: Long may it wave!

You can be part of that sense of community that has sustained Foxborough over the ages by helping us raise a new flagpole from which to fly the Stars and Stripes.

Please help us raise funds to continue flying our American flag high over the Common.  If you prefer to write a check instead of donating online, donations may be dropped off at the Selectmen's office or mailed to Town Hall, 40 South Street, Foxborough, MA 02035.  Checks should be made out to "Town of Foxborough" with a notation "Friends of the Foxborough Flagpole."
