FPA National Championships
Donation protected
We are the Future Player Academy (FPA) Soccer Club, and we are asking for help to send our boys to the US Youth Soccer National Championship in Kansas. We are a club team located just outside of Philadelphia. At first glance, the thought of donating to youth sports may seem cliché, or even excessive, and we would understand where you are coming from. We can think of plenty of other charities that are very deserving of your generosity, and we hope that you continue to support charities that are important to you. We are asking that if, after you read our story, you believe in the experience we are trying to provide to our boys, that you help by donating any amount you are comfortable with, to help defray travel costs including airfare, lodging, and meals.
FPA was founded on the principle of keeping costs to families down, and not asking for charity; but the team has enjoyed such unprecedented success this year, that we have reached a point where our opportunity has exceeded our means. We are not a large club with any property or fields, we do not employ college coaches or have large pools of players to pull from for National competitions. Instead, we are, quite literally, a group of players and parents who joined together with the intention of putting together a team that had the potential to succeed and push themselves to a higher level of competition. As a club, we have had (2) teams, including a 2001 boys group, and a 2001 girls group. Our boys team has surpassed all goals set at the beginning of the season.
For the past 3 years, the FPA ’01 boys team has won the Eastern Pennsylvania State Championship for US Youth Soccer. As a result of the win, FPA has advanced to Regional competition, of which there are (4) in the United States, with winners advancing to the National Championship. On July 3rd this year, FPA ’01 Boys won the Eastern Regional Championship with a 3-2 win over a team from Maryland. By winning the Eastern Regional Tournament, FPA has afforded themselves a berth in the US Youth Soccer National Championship in Overland Park, KS. This event is actually in a couple of weeks, running from July 22nd thru 28th. It’s hard to believe still that out of the hundreds of teams entered into this competition, we won. The opportunity to compete on a National level, a level of competition some of our boys will never see again…, is an opportunity we are committed to providing.
With that opportunity, comes the burden of buying plane tickets for 18 boys, coaches, and managers along with hotel rentals, transportation to fields, and meals throughout the week at the competition. About half of our boys just graduated high school and have committed to college, and as many of you know, along with college comes tuition bills, college loans, and a slew of other expenses. While we are frantically looking at total costs for pulling resources together; we decided to reach out to thru the community. So if you can empathize at all with the costs associated with being a parent of a child who is an athlete, with the tens of thousands of miles put on cars for travel teams, the countless hotel stays, or the joy you experience as a parent of a child who has enjoyed the experience of youth sports, then we ask that you consider donating any amount you feel comfortable with. Every dollar counts!
We will provide updates, and have capped the total amount we would except as a donation as we are not looking for any future funding, only enough to help us represent Eastern PA at Nationals this year.
