SABS' Ultra Walk for Beatson Cancer Charity

Inspired by his brother, Ashaq's, recent cancer treatment at Beatson Hospital, Ameed Versace – aircraft pilot, martial artist, public speaker, elite coach, and member of the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society (SABS) – will be conquering an ultra challenge.

From the 24th to 26th June, Ameed will be embarking on a gruelling solo-challenge, walking a distance of 100 miles from Dundee, to Edinburgh, and finally to Glasgow. The objective is to raise awareness of, and raise vital funds for, the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer. They make the journey easier by transforming the way cancer care is funded and delivered. They provide exceptional services, as well as funding specialists, research and education to invest in a better future for cancer patients. Ameed witnessed the remarkable care provided by the staff at the Beatson Cancer Centre for his brother.

This project is delivered by the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society (SABS). SABS is a Shia Muslim charity working to meet the needs of the Scottish Shia community whilst contributing to society overall. A focus of ours is improving the standard of the nation's wellbeing, as this Quranic verse enjoins: "And whoever saves the life of a person, it is as if he has saved the life of the whole of humankind." (Quran 5:32). Following this principle, we help and support. For instance, we deliver Scotland's largest BAME blood donation drive, the Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign Scotland. Beyond our commitment to life-saving action, we lead on promoting collaboration and coexistence, championing educational and academic causes, advancing interfaith and intrafaith work, delivering humanitarian projects, and contributing to the fabric of Scottish society.
