UPDATE 12/18/24:
Timothy is back at home! We have six weeks of sternal precautions to make sure that he does not reopen his sternum, so he is living on the first floor of the house and really taking it easy. Arlene has been working and taking care of Timothy and the house, quite the amazing wife. Time is going to be the healer.
From Tim:
My heart valve IS FIXED, but there is damage that needs to be healed. My heart is still enlarged and I'm taking meds to try and decrease the workload. My ejection fraction (the effectiveness of my heart's ability to pump) is at 37% when it needs to be above 50%. And I have nodules on my lungs that are probably from my years of vaping back in the day that need to get looked at eventually. These scans will take place in a couple months to give time to heal, so hopefully with my valve fixed, everything else will fall in line. Bills are starting to come in too which give a little bit of stress, but I know the Lord heals and provides. Thank you everyone for your prayers!
UPDATE 11/25/24:
He has heart failure with a reduced ejection fraction due to severe aortic valve regurgitation likely due to a bicuspid valve vs prolapsed valve
Basically, that means the blood in his heart is moving the wrong way due to a leaky valve in his heart
We’re looking at needing heart surgery for a valve replacement
Backstory: During his annual physical in August, his doctor found a heart murmur and recommended an Echo, it was more than we were expecting to spend and we were in the middle of wedding planning/paying and since he didn't have symptoms we held off on having it done. 2 nights ago he felt suddenly short of breath in the middle of his sleep and woke up but that went away and he went back to sleep. Yesterday he helped move a shoe rack cabinet and became a lot more short of breath after it than he normally would but didn't think much about it. Then yesterday night, I heard him gurgling water and woke up and saw him sitting up in bed next to me, he said he hadn't slept yet because he felt like he couldn't breathe and lay flat. He described it as if someone scared you and you lost your breath but never got it back. He also felt like there were crackles in his throat when he would take a deep breath in. I ended up listening to his lungs and heart and his lungs did sound abnormal (diminished in the right lower lobe for all you medical peeps) and his heart rate was high even though he was just sitting. I ended up contacting some coworkers and decided to bring him in.
ER: We luckily didn't have to wait much and the whole process happened pretty quickly. The ER doctor was concerned about a blood clot in his lung (pulmonary embolism) due to how quickly it happened and him having elevated heart rate. They did a CT scan of his chest which showed no blood clot but he had an enlarged heart (cardiomegaly), fluid on his lungs (pulmonary edema and pleural effusions), and reactive lymph nodes. As a result he got admitted and received a diuretic to start helping get fluid off (Lasix)
