Frances Hayes' Medical Bills

Donation protected
Thank you for reading. Many of you know my sister, Frances, had an accident on November 1, 2021 and sustained serious injuries. Due to the circumstances and location of the injuries detailed below, the Hayes family will not be receiving reimbursement for the out-of-pocket medical expenses associated with this accident.

She and Lloyd (her husband) were attending a ministry event at an Alabama State Park. Lloyd is a bi-vocational Pastor, so he shepherds a church and works a M-F full time job too. They took vacation to attend this event. The State of Alabama and its agencies have sovereign immunity from liability. There is a process to file a claim with the state for personal injury occurring on state owned property. Frances and Lloyd followed the process and the agency over the Alabama State Parks denied their claim. The next step was a hearing in Montgomery which they attended and presented their case which would be reviewed by a Board of Adjusters. Last week, they received notice the Board has upheld the denial of their claim so there are no further options available. Our family set this up as a way for anyone who wanted to assist them with these expenses. Please know they will appreciate any amount anyone feels led to contribute.

Thankfully, Frances has medical insurance through her employer to help with the bills. However, they have incurred out of pocket expenses around $25,000 since that day. This is not everything they have had to spend but it does include 2 ER visits, 1-month hospital stay, 3 surgeries, Doctors, medical transport, medical equipment, Home Health care, outpatient Physical Therapy. Frances is still in Physical Therapy twice a week and will be for a while. Lloyd has been by her side for all of it. His employer was gracious to allow him to work remotely to be with her during her hospitalization and many weeks after she went home. Her employer provided FMLA and short-term disability for 12 weeks. She has worked from home since her leave was over.

Our family, their church family, friends, neighbors, and others have provided support to them by providing meals, visiting, building a ramp at their house, our parents basically moved in with them when she was released from the hospital to help. Many of you have followed their updates on Facebook and watched her progress with the top-notch care received from the beginning. We are very thankful she is getting better and better with time.
