Frank and Leila (Rolling Sushi) need our help!
Our friends Frank, Leila, Alex and Gabe need support during this very difficult time. Leila’s mom Vicki died August 20, 2021 after an extended battle with Lymphoma. You may know Frank and Leila from their sushi operation; they are local business owners who moved to San Juan Island in 2010, and they’ve been feeding sushi to islanders from their “Frank’s Rolling Sushi” business for years.
Vicki did not have financial resources beyond her monthly social security check, so Frank and Leila brought her into their home and cared for her. She did not have an estate to cover medical care, air ambulance, or funeral related costs. Many of these costs fell on Frank and Leila, and they gladly bear them; however, there wasn’t a ready source of funds to do so. As small business owners, they were well aware that time away from the business to care for Vicki wasn’t something that would be covered, but they did it anyway.
We are asking our community to join in helping them cover her end-of-life medical and burial related expenses. We are also asking our community to help them recover some of the real financial short-falls that came from choosing to serve her at the cost of income through their business.
