Brief Bio:

As a young folksinger Frank jammed with Woody Guthrie, recorded with the Pete Seeger, and was even in the Weavers’ famous Carnegie Hall reunion recording after Seeger had left the group. Frank played on albums and toured with Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. His guitar students included Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff, Michael Martin Murphey, Roger McGuinn, Odetta and Lowell George.

We Shall Overcome became the spiritual anthem of one of the most passionate, important and powerful movements in American history.
It took three folksingers to shape this song as we know it today and bring it to the attention of Martin Luther King Jr., who unleashed this powerful, emotional poem to the world: Guy Carawan, Pete Seeger ... and a humble music teacher named Frank Hamilton.

In the early 1960s Frank co-founded Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music, which is still thriving over a half a century later. He co-founded the Frank Hamilton School in Atlanta in 2015. At the age of 85, Frank remains a revered leader of Atlanta’s folk music community.

Production:
THE FRANK HAMILTON AND THE FOLK REVIVAL was produced by a consortium of Atlanta-based filmmakers – Redwine Productions, Image Digital Media and Bert Elliott Productions – in cooperation with Woodsongs Front Porch Association Inc., the non-profit extension of the nationally syndicated WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour.
