Frank Massimino’s Brain Tumour Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Krystal and I’m fundraising for my dad, Frank Massimino.

Frank was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumor which is malignant and sadly there is no cure for it.

He underwent brain surgery in 2020 and again on January 31, 2023 in Ottawa. As a result my dad has not been able to work since mid January and we are unsure if he will be able to go back to work because of his difficulty with speaking caused by Aphasia post surgery.

Due to the type of tumour and where it is located within his brain, he has needed to have all of his treatments in Ottawa with a surgeon who specializes in operating on his brain while he is awake.

Frank now needs chemo and radiation in Ottawa, as the Windsor teams assessment was that they could not safely complete his radiation due to his past radiation treatments 10 years ago from a different head and neck cancer. Thankfully the Ottawa team has identified a safe strategy to treat him with radiation for 3 weeks and they are adamant how important this is to help delay the regrowth of this tumour.

The radiation is covered by OHIP, but his chemo is not. He only has 50% coverage from his work benefit plan and the chemo is very expensive. So between the chemo, his stay in Ottawa and his travel to and from Ottawa, we are looking at approximately $10,000.

If there is any money remaining after covering these costs, we will keep it in an account dedicated to Frank’s future health needs such as travel to Ottawa for follow ups and possible nursing care.

We recently had to spend 1 month in Ottawa in January/February this year for his surgery. Since we are not from Ottawa, we spent about $10,000 for our stay & travel. We have been trying to finance this all ourselves but we have gotten to the point where we need to ask for help.

For those of you who know my dad, you know that he is the most giving, the most positive and the most loving man I know. I ask humbly in this time of need for any help we can get. We also ask for your prayers during this difficult time.
