Friends and family, I am writing to share some recent health news. I have shared with some of you and I thank you for your prayers so far.
On October 21st, I went to the emergency room after having severe bronchial problems. I had been coughing up blood for a few days and finally thought it was serious enough to go to the hospital. They ran tests, kept me a few days but it was a complete surprise when they finally came back with the diagnosis. They found a large cancerous mass in my lung.
I know that today with our modern medicine, this diagnosis is not necessarily a death sentence and my doctors were optimistic. They sent me off with the results, a whole lot of uncertainty and recommended I seek out an oncologist.
The biggest problem, however, with modern medicine is the state of healthcare. It was exactly 50 days, almost 2months since my diagnosis before I was scheduled to receive a single treatment.
Insurance companies, referrals and a general lack of urgency between providers and insurers has left me not only physically exhausted due to lack of treatment but emotionally and mentally drained trying to jump through their hoops.
This week I had my 1st radiation and chemotherapy consultation. This prognosis was hopeful, though the next hurdle was pretty devastating. The cost for the chemotherapy AFTER insurance is a little over $5,000 for 3 treatments and this being the end of the fiscal year, the treatment center does not offer payment arrangements, and I do not have this amount of cash put away.
Now you all know me, I plan to get up, show up and bring the fight to this stage of life. My 2 strokes have been tough but slowly, over the years I have been able to recuperate to a good quality of life, and I plan to continue doing that.
I don’t like to ask for a lot of help, but I am humble and willing to receive here where I may need it the most. If you are able to contribute any amount (10–20 dollars everything will help) I will use it towards the cost of my treatment and my renewed hope will serve as thanks to your amazing generosity.
