This is my nephew, Frankie! He is 6 years old and the coolest little dude around. Frankie was born with epilepsy. When he was 16 months old, he had three brain surgeries to remove the part of his brain responsible for his seizures. He was seizure free for 2.5 years after the first surgery, but then started having seizures here and there.
Like any six year old boy- Frankie and his brain hit a growth spurt! Unfortunately, with that brain growth, another part of Frankie's brain decided to misbehave. He started to have multiple seizures a day (some days hitting 20+).
Last week Frankie went into the hospital. After multiple tests, new medications, and maxing out on his old meds- my sister and her family had to make a difficult decision.
Based on imaging and the EEG data that was collected, the doctors are very confident that they need to remove a bit more tissue close to where the prior surgery was done.
It was a scary and difficult decision for my sister and her family to accept, but once again they are putting on their capes and showing just how couragous they really are.
Frankie will be going into surgery within a couple weeks. Before this started happening again-my sister, Kate, started her new job in a pediatric long term care for medically fragile children, to help other little superheros like Frankie. She hasn't worked there long enough to receive paid time off, and will continue to be out of work and by Frankie's side for at least another month. Frankie's dad, Frank will be taking FMLA during this time, as well so they can all assemble to fight this battle together.
Between hospital bills, medication, and time out of work I am respectfully asking for your help. Not only is Frankie brave, positive, and happy- but he has two amazing parents by his side.
My family appreciates all the kind words, gifts, visits, prayers, and positive thoughts that have already been sent to Frankie.
Thank you in advance for your donation. My nephew is truly amazing and I have no doubt that this little superhero will conquer his battles once again!
