Franklin County Angel Fund for school lunches
Donation protected
Good morning everyone. I know it’s a lot of different opinions on this subject right now but I have spent all morning with Heather Snead from the school board office trying to find a resolution for this situation. Before I post the specifics of our conversation I would like to ask that since lunchtime is getting ready to start for our high schoolers that if you are a parent of a high school student that has a negative balance and your child has been denied a meal then please let your child know that they need to approach a administrator today BEFORE they go through the lunch line and they WILL be fed!! No questions asked they will revive a lunch!! If you have a child that has friends that are in need of lunch please try to get the word to them that NO child will go without food today or in the future if the administrators know about the need!!
Heather along with myself are trying to formulate a plan to make sure that if the policy needs changing then the policy will be amended. I need your voices at the October 14th meeting though to make this happen. OUR children need OUR voices!! Right now our next step is I’m going to be setting up a gofundme account that we as a community need to raise funds ASAP to get this negative balance taken care of, these balances change daily so I will be setting the goal amount to cover that change. Any money left over will go directly to Heather at the school board office for the “Angel Fund” for future issues that may arise with school lunches. I have Secret Angels that have pledged to match any fees that gofundme takes from the total as my other fundraisers have been. 100% of the money raised will be taken directly to the school board so they can determine where it needs to be applied to keep this from happening again.
There are a few things that we will be doing to help while we’re waiting on the meeting. I will be assisting parents with filling out the free / reduced lunch applications, we will have the backup funds from the fundraiser in case of an emergency to use, etc. I will reach out to community leaders, churches and non profit organizations to help with this.
Change takes time and sadly there isn’t a overnight fix to this BUT I’m happy with the progress made this morning and knowing that as long as the administrators know at the high school before the child goes through the line then they will be fed.
There are two different ways to donate.
1- Take or mail checks directly to:
Franklin County School Board
25 Bernard Road

Memo: Write Angel Fund. If taking cash or checks by the school board office then please see Lisa Banks.
2- Donate to the gofundme Page. All fees that gofundme subtracts will be added back in by a Secret Angel in our community.
