If you're just joining this story, I'll give you the run down. On Sunday, July 9th, Chris was on his 3rd day of a massive migraine and was no longer able to keep food down. His wife, Kristine, decided that he must be dehydrated and took him to the ER for meds and fluids. Shortly after arriving, they admitted Chris to the ICU with a large brain tumor. After a biopsy, doctors discovered that it was a medulloblastoma, a tumor almost exclusively found in children.
On Wednesday, July 19th, the doctors performed an 8 hour operation to remove a portion of the tumor in Chris' brain. The recovery has been tough. At this point, almost one week after surgery, Chris spends a few hours awake each day and has begun to respond to questions by showing a finger on his left hand. He looks at people and follows them with his eyes, and he gives an occasional smirk when he sees a child or someone says something funny. His right side still only moves as a reaction to pinches or a tickle.
Needless to say, this is going to be a long recovery. All patients recovering from a major brain surgery recover in different ways depending on what area of the brain was disrupted. It could take a year for Chris to be back to his normal self.
In the meantime, he will have to begin treatment for the remaining 30% of the tumor that was not removed in surgery. He will likely undergo both radiation and chemotherapy.
As if this wasn't enough, Chris and Kristine are expecting their first child in about 4 weeks. Kristine has her work cut out for her taking care of Chris and a baby.
This is where you come in. Kristine will naturally be out of work for at least the next 3-4 months as she hones her skills as a new mother to Baby Cru. Chris is likely to be out of work for even longer as he undergoes treatment for the cancer and recovers from brain surgery.
Some of you may know that we are planning a big benefit party on August 5th to help Chris and Kristine with some of the financial hardships that they are bound to endure. This site is primarily meant to be an opportunity for those of you who will not be able to make it to the party to make a contribution to the cause.
Chris and Kristine appreciate anything that you can do to help them.
