Freddie Gumbs' Funeral Arrangements
Donation protected
We have just received the sad news of the passing of Friend and Bass Master Freddie Gumbs (August 7, 1950 - January 26, 2021).
Many of you have reached out and shared your wishes to have a memorial/viewing for Freddie Gumbs, who was loved and a dear friend to many of you. Being that Freddie's passing was unfortunate and unexpected the family was not financially prepared to accommodate this request, in addition to the actual burial services.
Therefore, Freddie's children have created this go fund me page to request donations from friends and family that would like to have one last good-bye.
The money raised will help to cover costs with his cremation, memorial service, internment, and any associated costs/fees.
Bio:
Freddie was an essential figure in the formation of the Puerto Rico Jazz scene, appearing in the first clubs exclusively dedicated to Jazz with musicians such as Jimmy Rivera, Héctor Veneros, and Mark Monts de Oca, among others.
In the 1970s, he shared with Jazz legends such as Joe Henderson and Randy Brecker. And he recorded with trumpeter Nat Adderley.
We will forever recognize his legacy in the History of Jazz in Puerto Rico.
He is survived by:
Children: Lorie & Corey
Grandchildren: Corey Gumbs Jr, Makeda Phipps, Tyler Gumbs, Sonikue Phipps, Abiosu Phipps, Adunale Phipps, & Zaddiya Gumbs
Brother: Jaime Solano-Gumbs & wife Teresa,
Nephews & Nieces: Jimmy, Michael, & Kelvin & wife Mandy, Ingrid and husband German
Grandnephews & nieces: Gladys Sue & Frankie Sailor (Kelvin), Emil & Sofia (Ingrid)
and the many, many friends he has touched had over the years.
We appreciate any help you can give to help us give Freddie one last show. Thank you.
