It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the loss of Fredy, a kind and gentle soul who brought light and love to everyone he met.

Fredy, originally from Colombia, had recently moved to London, Ontario in December 2023 with his beloved wife Paula and their two beautiful dogs, Tata and Lilo. Together, they built a simple, loving life — filled with warmth, laughter, and the quiet joys of being together.

But behind the smiles, they faced unimaginable struggles.

Just this week, their loyal Golden Retriever, Tata, Fredy’s "partner in crime," was diagnosed with cancer. For the past five days, Tata could no longer walk or move. The decision was made to say goodbye and put her to sleep — a heartbreaking moment for any pet parent.

Overwhelmed with grief, financial pressure, and emotional pain, Fredy made the tragic decision to end his life on April 17, 2025, the night before Tata was to be put to sleep.

Fredy’s passing has left Paula alone, heartbroken, and without the means to pay for funeral and cremation costs, or even to manage the basic steps of closing their home. She is not only mourning the love of her life but also preparing to say goodbye to Tata today — all while trying to survive in a foreign country, far from home and with no support system.

As a community we need to spread more awareness for mental health and end the stigma towards this invisible illness. You never know what someone is going through.

Fredy and Paula came to Canada seeking a better life. Despite working tirelessly for minimum wage, they always showed kindness, hope, and love — even when they had very little themselves.

Now, as a community, we want to show Paula that she is not alone. That even in the darkest of moments, humanity, compassion, and love still live here. We want to help her give Fredy and Tata the dignified goodbyes they deserve, and to give Paula the time, space, and support she needs to grieve and begin healing.

Fredy’s funeral and cremation to be sent to Columbia

Tata’s final moments.

Basic living and transition costs for Paula to go back to Columbia.

Care for Lilo, who remains by Paula’s side
