GRANDMOTHER DETAINED ON HER WAY TO WORK

On Thursday, October 17th, at around 5:30 am, Sofia and her two co-workers were on their way to work in the sweet potato fields. The driver, Sofia’s friend, noticed that a vehicle behind them flashed their lights, signaling her to pull over. Once they were pulled over, the officer approached the driver’s side and immediately asked for drivers license and registration. Afraid, the driver immediately did so. Thinking it was police. When the officer came back Sofia noticed that the officer’s vest said “ICE.” They were all arrested and detained at Mesa Verde. Our grandma, Sofia, is the only one left there. The other two individuals are no longer detained.

Sofia has been working in the fields in the Central Valley, attending church, and raising her family in this country for the last 20 years. She has grown children, grandkids, nieces, and nephews, and siblings who are devastated by this tragedy.

El jueves 17 de octubre, alrededor de las 5:30 a.m., Sofía y sus dos compañeros de trabajo se dirigían a trabajar en los campos de camote. El conductor, la amiga de Sofía, notó que un vehículo detrás de ellos encendió sus luces, señalándole que se detuviera. Una vez que fueron detenidos, el oficial se acercó al lado del conductor e inmediatamente solicitó la licencia de conducir y el registro. Con miedo, la conductor lo hizo de inmediato. Pensando que era policía. Cuando el oficial regresó, Sofía notó que el chaleco del oficial decía "ICE". Todos fueron arrestados y detenidos en Mesa Verde. Nuestra abuelita, Sofía, es la única que queda allí. Los otros dos individuos ya lograron su liberación.
Sofía ha estado trabajando en los campos del Valle Central, asistiendo a la iglesia y criando a su familia en este país durante los últimos 20 años. Ella ha crecido hijos, nietos, sobrinas y sobrinos y hermanos que están devastados por esta tragedia.
