Spray & Neuter 100 cats in Bansko (Bulgaria)
Donation protected
Hi folks!
I am Carole and a few weeks ago I travelled to the beautiful village of Bansko in the Pirin mountains in Bulgaria. It’s a little paradise, but my heart was very sad to see so many stray cats in bad shape, and lots of them pregnant. The locals told me that there is not enough food in the summer and during the cold winter most of the kittens die.
Many of the cats are super friendly and constantly look for some petting. They are sooo sweet and trusting.
According to PETA and other animal welfare organizations, the single most important thing that we can do to save cats from all the suffering and death that their overpopulation causes is to spay and neuter them. Spaying and neutering are routine, affordable surgeries that can prevent thousands of animals from being born, only to suffer and struggle to survive on the streets, be abused by cruel or neglectful people, or be euthanized in animal shelters for lack of a loving home.
Spaying and neutering make a big difference: In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce an incredible 370,000 kittens!
Sterilized animals live longer, happier lives. Spaying eliminates the stress and discomfort that females endure during heat periods, eliminates the risk of uterine cancer, and greatly reduces the risk of mammary cancer. Neutering makes males far less likely to roam or fight, prevents testicular cancer, and reduces the risk of prostate cancer. Altered animals are less likely to contract deadly, contagious diseases, such as feline AIDS and feline leukaemia, that are spread through bodily fluids.
Hence, this is why I and some other cat people from Coworking Bansko want to support the street cats by neutering 100 of them in August. A lot of the members love cats and are happy to support this project by taking care of the cats during recovery.
But we need your financial contribution to pay for vets to neuter the cats and to buy cat food and other supplies for the week when the cats recover from the operation before we can release them back to the streets.
If we raise more money, then we will neuter more cats in Bansko and the surrounding villages. If we raise less money then we will only be able to neuter fewer cats. So every donation counts.
If you want to join us in August in Bansko to catch, neuter, neuter and release the cats or have any other ideas on how to help, please get in touch.
