Free Diego From ICE

Donation protected
We have a very good friend, a family of four. In this community, they are very dear to our hearts. It is a mom, two little girls, and a dad, his name is Diego. They are an immigrant family. A few years ago, they were having a normal life. One of those days, the mom had a brain aneurysm. She had to be taken to the ER. She went into a coma for about a month. Doctors said she wasn't gonna make it. She wasn't gonna live. Diego did not believe he had lost her when the doctors told him the best thing to do was take her off life support. He held on to his heart. He decided he wasn’t going to unplug the cord. He was not gonna lose his wife that way. He decided he was gonna take care of his family regardless--his two little girls and his wife.
For weeks, he was there in the hospital right by her side, day and night, with Las Chicas as he used to call the girls. And then, one day, she woke up. She was released from the hospital in a difficult shape. Unable to walk, to use the right side of her of her body, and difficulty speaking, she needed attention and care round the clock.

Diego, as her husband, took care of her and their girls with such care, love, and compassion. He was there to cook for all of them, to bathe them, clean the house, and even brush and braid their hair. He has been the rock and support for the entire family since.

Last Sunday, August 25th, he was arrested. He was in his own driveway, in his home, sitting in his car, intoxicated. KDPS was called and he was taken to the Kalamazoo County jail. Because of the no-ICE hold policy that was written by the sheriff, we never thought he would be held for ICE. But he was. Despite the policy written by the local sheriff, Diego was held for more than 6 hours waiting for ICE.

ICE came. Took him to the Calhoun County jail. And he is currently placed in deportation proceedings.

His wife and children are currently being taken cared for by a family of hers outside Kalamazoo. One of the family members quit their job in order to care for the family. There is so much need…

Some of the needs are:

Attorney fees
Bond out of ICE detention
Everyday needs for the family
Trips to Kalamazoo for the wife’s therapy
The girls’ back to school items
And more...

We are asking to help us reach our goal. This money will be used to help Diego for his bond out of ICE detention so he can return with his family and their home in Kalamazoo. If Diego is denied a bond hearing, or his bond is less than the amount raised, the money that is donated will be given to the family for everyday needs.

Please help us return the girls and their parents back to their home in Kalamazoo to the family's cucumber and tomato garden just in time to harvest them and eat.
