Free Dr. Sheikh Umarr Kamarah
Donation protected
Dr. Sheikh Umarr Kamarah, a U.S. citizen, spent 12 days in police detention in Freetown, Sierra Leone, without charges. He has been released and mandated to report to police in Freetown daily, though he still has not been charged with a crime. This disrupts his life and liberty. Dr. Kamarah is innocent. He should be immediately and unconditionally freed from the clutches of Sierra Leone’s broken legal system.
Dr. Kamarah facilitates community initiatives for S.L. Mining in Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leonean government has been in dispute with S.L. Mining for some time. When a deadly riot erupted in the mining town of Lunsar, Dr. Kamarah and his colleagues were wrongly accused of inciting it. Dr. Kamarah has never incited or condoned violence in any way and would never be involved in anything that would destroy the community he works with.
Despite being free from police detention, Dr. Kamarah is still not allowed to leave Sierra Leone. So far, we have launched a social media awareness campaign and are actively working with U.S. State Department officials to bring Dr. Kamarah back to the U.S.. However, our efforts have yielded no results. We believe that we can make greater strides towards getting Dr. Kamarah back home if we had a dedicated, knowledgeable legal defense team that is well-versed in Sierra Leone Law. We created this GofundMe page to ask for your help in securing the funds necessary to hire legal representation for Dr. Kamarah. Thank you in advance for your donation.
