Help Reunite Families in El Paso!

Donation protected
The Trump administration's policies of ripping kids from their families has sparked international outrage. If you're looking for a way to help, one of the best things you can do is donate to a community bond fund!

Paying immigration bonds is often the only way for families to get their loved ones out of detention--but the minimum bond amount is $1,500, making freedom unattainable for many working-class people. Our Fronterizo Fianza Fund, based in El Paso, works with families and advocates to post bonds for those who would otherwise remain in indefinite detention!

Learn more about the Fronterizo Fianza Fund and read success stories here!

The Fronterizo Fianza Fund uses money for only two purposes: (1) to help pay immigration bonds and (2) to deposit small amounts on detainees' commissary and telephone accounts while they're still inside. The Fianza Fund and the Detained Migrant Solidarity Committee are entirely volunteer-run, so we have no overhead costs: 100% of your donations go directly to directly impacted people.

We established the Fianza Fund in February 2018 and have so far helped bond out 6 people! Two of the people we've helped get free are mothers who were horrifically separated from their children at the border--both of them are now reunited with their kids and joined an ACLU lawsuit against family separation! (Pictured above, Jocelyn, who was reunited with her son in El Paso after nearly 10 months apart.)

All money raised as part of this fundraiser will go into a pool of money dedicated exclusively to paying immigration bonds. We receive numerous requests to help with bonds, and DMSC-Fianza Fund collectively selects which individuals to help based on a flexible set of criteria, including amount of the bond, connection to the West Texas-New Mexico region, and potential benefit to the detained person/family in immigration court proceedings, family finances, or movement building.

Currently, we are raising funds for Alberto Ramos, a 19-year-old who was detained by immigration agents during a workplace raid in Round Rock, Texas. Alberto's family hopes to post his bond this week. Read more about Alberto at FianzaFund.org. We are also awaiting bond hearings for two migrant women held in El Paso, who were separated from their children by Border Patrol. We are hopeful that we will be able to help them all post bond!

Because the government only allows one obligor for each bond, we can do this one of two ways: (1) post the bond ourselves, acting as obligor; or (2) transfer the money to advocates or families under an agreement that they return any money contributed by the Fianza Fund if the bond is ultimately refunded.
