Our team at Tesa’s Rescue is deeply committed to tackling the heart breaking issue of stray dog overpopulation in Romania, especially in the small town of Drobeta Turnu-Severin. This town holds a special place in our hearts - it’s where Tesa, our gorgeous logo Husky, first appeared, a frightened and hungry stray who changed our lives forever. Now we're determined to bring that same change to countless other animals who deserve a safer, healthier life.

Our campaign:

In the coming weeks (and hopefully on an ongoing basis), Tesa’s Rescue will be part of a life-changing, multi-day campaign in Mehedinti County (Romania) to offer free spay and neuter services for stray, feral and owned dogs whose guardians cannot afford this essential procedure. We’re partnering with a team of volunteers as well as skilled veterinarians who will travel to Drobeta Turnu-Severin to perform as many spay and neuter surgeries as possible. Alongside spaying and neutering, the dogs will receive treatments for internal worms, external parasites and vaccinations. The team will also provide medical care for any injuries, giving these animals a fresh start and a much better chance at a healthier life.

Why this matters:

We do not wish to upset the lovely readers, but we must mention that the overpopulation of stray dogs in Romania has created a harsh reality. In larger cities, animal welfare is slowly improving, but in smaller towns like Drobeta Turnu-Severin, unneutered dogs are free to roam, mate and continue the cycle of stray overpopulation. As a result, dogs face the grim prospect of injury, hunger and often end up in overcrowded shelters where they suffer and ultimately lose their lives. Feeding stray animals does help, but without sterilization, it also enables a cycle of breeding and suffering that never ends. The kindest, most humane solution is to stop the cycle before it begins: through spaying and neutering. This campaign represents a major opportunity to prevent the birth of countless puppies who would otherwise face a life of hardship, injury and abandonment.

Why we need your support:

The cost of this campaign includes vital resources like tranquilizers, anaesthesia, worming and flea treatments, vaccines and medication to treat injuries. While we are fully committed to this cause, the cost of these medical supplies is high. Every pound raised will go directly towards these expenses. We estimate each procedure will cost £26.
