Free Tuition For Disadvantaged Children

Donation protected
Help children from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve in line with their abilities and not their financial backgrounds! My name is Michaela a secondary trained English teacher currently working for a local authority in London.  Having taught in inner city schools throughout my 18 years in education, I have seen first hand the disparities between students, and often their results, dependent on their socioeconomic backgrounds. This is further exasperated if they are also first or second generation British and speak English as their second or third language. Over the years I have been teaching there have been countless government initiatives: closing the gap and narrowing the gap to name just two, that have had varying degrees of success.  The thing is children from non disadvantaged backgrounds can always inadvertently continue to widen that gap with their access to 1:1 tuition.  School closures due to Covid 19 will only mean one thing, further issues and an even wider gap. The goal is to provide at least ten hours of free tuition to children aged 9 - 18 (Year 5 - Year 13) in any core subject that they need further support with.  Dependent on how much funds are raised we will hopefully be able to provide more than ten hours and more than one core subject.  Funds will be used to pay an army of tutors at a discounted rate to provide 1:1 and small group sessions. All tutors will be qualified teachers.  Due to the current climate this initiative will start with online sessions and gradually move to face to face; although to be honest online allows us to widen our delivery scope and support children across the UK so the likelihood is that some element of this will be retained. Given the recent debacle with A level results and the likelihood of a similar farce this week when GCSE results are received we would like to be ready to deliver within weeks of the start of the academic year.   I've had the privilege of working with hundreds, in fact thousands of students over the years who have made me laugh, cry, proud, enraged, encouraged and hopeful in equal measures. I cannot tell you how many times I've wished that a student could just have a few more hours a week of teaching to get them over the magical C/D now 3/4 borderline knowing the difference that it would make to their life chances. Teachers, especially those working with disadvantaged children do everything we can to help and support our students but quite frankly there are not enough hours in the day. Your donation will help to support teachers and their students to achieve the educational outcomes they deserve. Many thanks
