Contribute to Aamir’s Deportation Defense Fund

Aamir is a Pakistani immigrant who has lived in the United States for over 32 years, since he was a teenager. He describes the United States as the only home he has ever known. Now, he faces deportation to Pakistan and separation from his family in New York. Please contribute to Aamir’s deportation defense fund so he can continue his fight to remain in the United States with his loved ones and community.

 

Aamir has been imprisoned by ICE for nearly two years while he fights his deportation case. Initially, he was detained at the Hudson County Jail in Kearny, New Jersey, enduring harrowing conditions through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. ICE then transferred him thousands of miles to Alabama’s notoriously inhumane Etowah County Jail—where there is currently an uncontrolled COVID outbreak. These atrocious conditions are particularly dangerous for Aamir, who has diabetes and survived a heart attack in 2017. His health has declined precipitously at Etowah, where the jail has refused to provided him appropriate medical care and from where ICE continuously refuses to release him.

Notwithstanding the oppressive conditions of his two-year incarceration by ICE, Aamir continues to lead organizing efforts at Etowah County Jail to demand humane living conditions for everyone detained, and call for freedom from imprisonment altogether. 

Now, to continue his fight for freedom, Aamir needs our help.  Aamir's case is in a critical moment: Despite strong arguments in his favor, the immigration court and Board of Immigration Appeals ruled against him. Aamir’s only remaining option to stay in the United States is to appeal before a federal court. He and his family need $6,000.00 to cover the cost of legal representation. Aamir must raise the funds by November 22nd, 2021 -- the deadline by which his attorneys must submit their filings to the court.  

Aamir should be at home in New York, with his family and community. This appeal is his last and best chance to make that happen. Please consider contributing to Aamir’s deportation defense fund.
