Greetings! Freedom Middle School is in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Our school has Title 1 status (100% are on free or reduced lunch). Our students include deaf/hearing impaired and those with profound disabilities. In addition, Freedom serves a global population residing in the cities of Stone Mountain and Clarkston; about one hundred countries and fifty languages are represented within the student body. There are definite challenges; however, our principal promotes and expects excellence in all things. We are not complainers; we are problem solvers.

The Freebots Robotics team competes in First Lego League Tournaments each year. In addition to building and programming a robot, the team is required to complete an extensive research project that must include data from real world experts. Further, the team is mandated to share its findings with individuals that might benefit from any newly found solutions.

This year’s theme is Hydro Dynamics. Robotics teams from around the world are tasked with the mission of finding better ways to use, store, dispose, and/or transport water. Initially, the team identified a problem and solution that it felt would primarily benefit people in developing countries. Continued research, however, revealed that polluted water sources negatively impact many lives in developed countries as well. Cities like Flint and those affected by natural disasters (Puerto Rico, Houston, and Mexico) could also greatly benefit from the Freebots' research.

As such, we contacted the office of Michigan Governor, Rick Snyder, and requested the opportunity to share our findings. Specifically, the Freebots asked to speak in late November about Flint’s water crisis. The team would love nothing more than to see its solution used to enrich the lives of others.  As parents, we are asking you to help the Freebots get to Flint, Michigan. The team is comprised of nine students, one coach and one assistant coach.

We would like to leave Atlanta, GA via a non-stop flight on the morning of November 28, 2017; we would like to return on the evening of November 29, 2017. Because of the age of our middle school students and so that parents can see their children’s presentation, we are also requesting an additional ten tickets. (One extra ticket per child.) Therefore, we are in need of 22 non-stop airline tickets to Flint, Michigan, assistance with accommodations for one night and van rental.

Any and all support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,
Freebots' Parents
