Wilmer's Medical and Dental expenses
Donation protected
Wilmer is a Honduran asylum seeker who crossed the US/Mexico border in February 2019 in search of safety. He initially felt relieved when he was apprehended by Border Patrol. He thought he was finally free having made it to the country that espouses “Liberty and Justice for All.” The illusion of safety quickly vanished when ICE shipped Wilmer across the country. He was then imprisoned in a Virginia immigrant detention center for two and a half years.
Wilmer was finally paroled out at the beginning of August 2021, and has been staying with a sponsor family in Maryland. His mental and emotional well being have improved remarkably with counseling and better living conditions. He still needs a lot of help, especially with medical expenses. Years of poor nutrition and neglect resulted in dental problems that will cost $4,500 to correct at an affordable community dental clinic. The ability to crack a smile without feeling embarrassed about his appearance will in itself be an enormous boon to Wilmer's mental health.

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to his commissary and phone calls while he was detained!
