Sharing their burden together
Donation protected
Greetings distinguished friends,
Exactly 6 months ago, as you all may recall, we had a fundraising drive to share the burdens of the families of imprisoned Zone 9 bloggers and journalists. With the remarkable support of all of you, the fundraising was exceedingly successful. It was also our promise and plan to launch the fundraising every six months as long as our brothers and sisters remained in prison.
We have been swamped with dreadful news about the afflictions that Ethiopians go through both in the country and abroad. All of them need our attention and our commitment that is why we wanted to start with keeping our promise of conducting a second round fundraising. Hence as we have mentioned in the closing remark of our previous fundraising here we are again to share this opportunity for all of us to stand together with the families and share their burden.
Just the beginning of this week we have read the heart aching testimonials of Mahi, Edom, Abel, Atnaf, Asmamaw, BefeQadu, Natnail, Tesfalem and Zelalem. It is more painful for family members to know what their beloved children have gone through, that is why it is our obligation stand by them in this tough times and support them by saying We are here for you.
So, here we are again to kindly call the concerned online communities and friends of zone9ners to share the financial burden for those who shouldered the pain. They are our responsibilities. Our collective responsibility is to do what we are able to do to share our collective responsibility.
Love, respect, share and engage.

Since their illegal arrest, there has been tremendous and consistent global outcry against the government crackdown along with relentless advocacy efforts that demands their immediate release and a call for swift and fair legal procedure. The Ethiopian online community are still showing their unwavering solidarity to the illegal incarceration of zone9ners and journalists. All the love, care and solidarity that is being generously bestowed to them has been a source of encouragement to those who are in prison and to all who yearn freedom to reign.
Beyond the most fulfilling advocacy ventures, there has been few efforts to help and sustain the financial needs of the families of the jailed bloggers and journalists. The initiative were very small and solely based on pledges that burdens not more than a handful of individuals. The efforts has been great, timely and critical to help the families pass the ordeal without feeling the financial strain.
However, we believe, now is the time for all of us to share the burden of helping their families who carried the sudden burden of sustaining themselves along with the pain of losing their sons and daughters to prison.
The idea is to launch fundraising calls every six month in light of fulfilling the financial needs of the families for 6 months. The estimated six months budget for each family is 900 USD which is 150USD a month. This fundraising will run from Oct 20 through Oct 25th and the effort is to help achieve that collectively.
Hence, we here by kindly call the concerned online communities and friends of zone9ners to share the financial burden for those who shouldered the pain. They are our responsibilities. Our collective responsibility is to do what we are able to do to share our collective responsibility.
Help. Engage. Share.
