Trauma Support for Palestinian Children
Don protégé
The situation across Palestine is deteriorating due to ongoing human rights breaches, settler violence, the killing and imprisonment of civilians, night raids, and intensified attacks by the Israeli army. Millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank are struggling to live with dignity under Israeli occupation, facing movement restrictions and recurrent escalations of hostilities. The current war in Gaza and the subsequent rise in tension, lockdowns, and violence in the West Bank are having devastating effects on Palestinian children who already live in the context of ongoing trauma.
These children and their caregivers are in urgent need of mental health and psychosocial support. That's why we're supporting the launch of a MOBILE PSYCHOSOCIAL CLINIC to provide critical support directly to those who need it most in the West Bank.
We have set a fundraising goal of $50,000 to back this essential project, which involves the creation of a mobile Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) team. This dedicated team will be deployed across the West Bank, responding directly to areas in need to deliver timely and structured MHPSS services to children, caregivers, and communities. The initial 12 month phase of this work will take place between December 1st, 2023, and November 30th, 2024.
Your Support Will Enable:
- Emergency interventions and Psychological First Aid
- Group psychosocial counseling sessions for children and caregivers
- Community awareness sessions for community leaders
- Stress release and management for service providers
- Remote counseling and training for teachers and social workers in Gaza
Who Will Carry Out This Work:
We are supporting Anar for Empowerment and Psychosocial Support, a non-profit organization based in Bethlehem, Palestine, to launch this project. Their work is focused on enhancing the mental and emotional well-being of children affected by violence and oppression in Palestine.
Anar's Mission:
Anar's mission is to prevent the development of serious mental and psychological issues by addressing the psychosocial impacts of war, oppression, and violence in a timely manner. Their work is dedicated to prioritizing the essential human rights of health and well-being for Palestinian children, caregivers, and the broader community. They also aim to equip caregivers, teachers, and community leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills to support the children in their care.
Anar employs inclusive, human rights-based psychosocial support programs to achieve this goal and foster collaboration with stakeholders in the West Bank.
