The Frenchmen Artist's Market

Donation protected
We are fundraising to open the largest nighttime art market in America at Washington Square Park on Frenchmen Street!

For nearly a decade, the artists on Frenchmen street were part of a nighttime art market that hundreds of thousands of patrons visited. The market  provided over a hundred jobs for artists and became a cultural institution on Frenchmen Street, the premier destination in New Orleans for music and nightlife. The art market on Frenchmen street was the largest nighttime market in America. Year after year, thousands visited the market, searching for exquisite handmade paintings, jewelry, and  clothing. The market was a place people on Frenchmen Street congregated after shows to talk with artists, converse with each other, and soak in the creative energy in the air. It was a destination like no other.

In 2020, the pandemic hit hard. Large gatherings were prohibited, and the once vibrant Frenchmen street shuttered its doors for over a year. Artists who relied on the market for the majority of their income scrambled to find opportunities. Now, the pandemic has forced the former location of the market to be permanently closed. Even without a permanent home, we cannot let the idea of an artist's market die, too many jobs are at stake.

In 2021, the artists of Frenchmen street decided to start our own market, half a block down in the spacious Washington Square Park. The new market, The Frenchmen Artist's Market, will be run by the artists for the artists.  We are a non-profit organization and our intention is to build and grow a regular night market to help artists create a sustainable living income. We will provide daily opportunities for selling art and continued development through peer-led business workshops. The money raised from rental spots will be invested back into the artists with  large-scale artists' projects such as group shows, beautification work, public murals, as well as used for grants, awards, and emergency aid for the artists. With a bigger space, this new market will provide an estimated 250 jobs to artists and their small businesses.

We are asking the community for help with start up fees, specifically rental of an office, lighting, permitting, advertising, and weather funds. With your help, we will build a better artist market that will provide hundreds of jobs for decades to come!
