Fresh Start Backpacks
Donation protected
Each year, hundreds of young immigrant and refugee students enter Houston-area schools. The average Houston-area family spends around $100 per child on new backpacks and school supplies to prepare their students for a successful school year. Setting aside the funds for these critical supplies can be a struggle for refugee and immigrant families. We can help make getting ready for school a little easier by providing new backpacks and school supplies for these new young students.
Houston-based Eagle Scout candidate, Peter Bryant, wanted to help these kids feel confident and ready as they start in their new school. Starting in a new school can be stressful and Peter wanted to help ease the transition by providing new school supplies and backpacks for a fresh start. As a part of his Eagle Scout project, Peter developed Fresh Start Backpacks which aims to collect at least 300 backpacks filled with new school supplies. The backpacks will be donated to St. James Family Life Center which will work with the YMCA and Church World Services to distribute the donated items to local immigrant and refugee students.
Your donation will be used to purchase new backpacks or fill in missing supplies when it is time to assemble the backpacks. All items will be assembled at Peter’s Eagle Scout project workday in early October 2023. These students have already overcome many difficulties, please help make their fresh start in their new Houston-area school a little easier by contributing today!
