Help for Markita Jackson

Markita and her brother Maurice were students of mine in elementary school. They are currently facing difficult times, especially Markita who has taken on the majority of responsibility in her family. 

Years ago, Maurice was shot in the head and neck, but managed to survive.  He still needs care, and will for the rest of his life.  Markita and her mom and stepdad have managed to do an amazing job helping Maurice over the years.

A few years ago, Markita graduated fromcollege and fulfilled a dream to move to California.  She has been living there ever since, making her mom and brother very proud. They have been able to visit her and spend time together, despite the distance.  

Sadly, last year Markita had to come home to bury her older brother who was shot and killed.  She was never able to even say goodbye.  She returned to California, hoping to heal and start fresh.  

Unfortunately, last month, Markita received the news that her mother had passedaway from cardiac arrest.  Again, she had to travel home to Pittsburgh to bury another family member. She has been taking care of everything, without a minute to heal or process the emotions she’s going through.  

On top of everything, Markita was denied unemployment when her temp job ended right before coming back to Pittsburgh. She will be returning to California in a few weeks, hoping to find a new job. In the meantime, she could use help with her finances to get through.

I have known Markita for over 15 years now, and she has always put her family in front of herself. She is extremely mature for 28 years old, and has dealt with a lot in her young life.  Any money raised will go directly to her for bills, caring for her brother, groceries, etc.  She is a beautiful, strong young woman who deserves a fresh start and some time to heal her heart.
