Fried Oreo Fund (Gurlies Lemonade and Sweets)
Donation protected
When Demetrius "Dee" Murray and his brother Marquis Williams found themselves in financial troubles, the brothers embarked on an entrepreneurial endeavor after finding their grandmother's recipe book. Not only did "Grandma Gurlie" leave them her secrets to delicious treats but she ultimately left them with an opportunity to create something more for themselves after her passing. In the summer of 2019, Dee and Marquis set up a small lemonade stand at a busy intersection of Tharpe St. and Gurlie's Lemonade was in business, however, their limited experience and resources caused them to have many unforeseen difficulties. This summer the brothers are adding a second feature to their stand by introducing sweets to the menu (hence "Gurlies Lemonade and Sweets"). If you've had the pleasure of trying any of the delicious flavors of fried Oreos, you will realize shortly after ordering that the Oreos are NOT the sweetest part of the business. Because of the brother's tenacity, impeccable work ethic, and humble disposition, people are raving about Gurlies sweets and Gurlies Grandsons.
The donations from this GoFundMe will go toward bringing Dee and Marquis one step closer to creating a business that aspiring entrepreneurs can look up to while reminding others that it's never too late to work toward your goals and with community support can make a world of difference. Special thanks to the Tallahassee Foodies Facebook page for spreading the word about these remarkable young men.
