Help Shawn Sexton

Shawn Sexton has been living with ALS for 10 years. At the time of his diagnosis, he dreamed about living long enough to see his son graduate from high school. Thanks to many prayers, excellent medical care, and generous support, Shawn was able to see John graduate from high school as well as the University of Notre Dame in 2023.
In July 2018, Shawn underwent a tracheostomy and has since been on a ventilator full-time. While ALS has affected all of Shawn’s voluntary muscles, it has not affected his brain. He uses an eye gaze system for anything you can do on a computer: compose emails and texts, speak, control environmental and TV settings, drive his wheelchair, participate in video conference calls, and in his typical push to innovate, explore new ways to maintain his technology guru status to help others.
Today, the Sexton family continues to play an integral role in the development of assistive technology with multiple organizations. LifeDrive continues to develop as a solution to allow people to drive their wheelchairs with their eyes and multiple ALS patients and their caregivers are testing the solutions. Further, Shawn continues to advise other eye gaze system users and interacts regularly with newly diagnosed ALS patients.
Shawn’s caregiving needs continue to require 24 hour care and are not covered by insurance. This GoFundMe is to assist in covering caregiving expenses of $2,000 per week for the next year.
