About Our Project
Pocha Productions is raising money for our stoner comedy Friends In High Places. The show will utilize the typically male driven genera to engage audiences on inter sectional feminist issues.
Hello From The Creators!
Christen Celaya and Maya Malan-Gonzalez are two U.S Latinas who wrote our hilarious pilot and series bible. They are artists who have dedicated their lives to theater and film that engages audiences on social justice issues. In our current political climate we recognize the need for comedic release as well as continuing to rally people towards causes that benefit marginalized communities, inequality and climate change. Underrepresented groups and issues that our pilot touches on are:
Misogyny
Bisexuality
Anxiety About Climate Change
Income Inequality
and yes... of course... weed.
And the rest of the series will touch on so much more. Our lost cost production model means we will be able to advance awareness about issues in real time and maintain an attitude that will "afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted" through the art of comedy.
About Our Company
Pocha Productions is an independent film company created by Christen Celaya. Pocha Productions’ mission is to engage an inter sectional feminist U.S Latinx perspective through cinematic story-telling and to empower latinx creatives and people of color at every level of production. I want to challenge audiences, regardless of gender identity, to examine what it means to see the world through a female gaze. I have spent my artistic career unpacking what the feminine voice and the feminine gaze means and I want to share the overlooked value of this gaze and inspire audiences to do so as well.
