Hello everyone,
My name is Lori Hansen and I am Brett's mom and I thank you so much for taking the time to read this. My husband Jim and I are just now allowing ourselves to think about how our son's life, our family, and how it has all changed since 01/04/2017. That is the day we learned that Brett was involved in a terrible car accident and was fighting for his life in the local trauma center. We hurried to be by his side and when we saw him we were in disbelief, for he didn't even resemble my loving son. The extent of his facial injuries was so severe, that doctors believed he may not survive his injuries at first. But, I knew he would. WE knew he would. Although my boy had lost his left eye and he may never regain sight in his right eye, that's ok with me, because I know he will survive. He is still in a coma and it cannot be known how badly his brain has suffered damage yet, but that's ok with me. Because I know he will survive. A MOTHER JUST KNOWS!.
My husband Jim and I were urged to open this account by our family and friends to help us financially with the cost of Brett's current and future medical expenses. We have never asked anyone for money to help us, however, Brett only has until May of 2017 until his health insurance runs out and he will be forced to enroll for disability through social security. Because Brett has less than a year of full time employment in the career he spent years trying to achieve and finally did so, his salary is at the entry level and so the disability payments will be minimal. We are told that Brett's recovery will not be measured in days or weeks, but rather many months and years.
My son and I are now battling together. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer several months ago, and I have many chemotherapy sessions to go, but I will survive. WE will survive TOGETHER! I cannot thank everyone enough fo rthe love and support that has already been shown for Brett and our family. Thank you so much in advance for any financial assistance you can provide so that we can get him the best of the best treatments available.
Sincerely and forever grateful,
Lori and James Hansen
