Friends of Eritrea - Adi Geda School Project

Hi, my name is Jim Trafford and I am the Treasurer of the Friends of Eritrea in the United Kingdom. (FoE) - Reg. Charity No 1052161.

Our Project for 2023 is to support the Adi Geda Elementary School in Eritrea with their urgent Renovation and Improvement Plan.

This Project is in support of the Adi Geda Elementary School - one of the first established in Eritrea, 70 years ago.

In urgent need of renovation and missing even the basics of classroom materials, children sit on the floor when the desks run out. There is, of course, no access to the computers or internet that we take for granted.

The School takes in about 100 children per year from local villages and, despite everything, has taught thousands of children their ABC, Maths, History, Geography and Basic Sciences, in their mother tongue, (Tigrigna)

AdiGeda Elementary School has served the local community since the 1940's. However, at the present time there are a lot of shortages. We, (the School Rehabilitation Committee, Debarwa subZone Education Office) are particularly concerned that some of our children have to attend lessons sitting in the floor, because of the lack of desks and chairs. To address this,and other problems, we ( have started a fund-raising campaign.

The following are needed to address the main problems:

1. Buying 100 chairs and tables for pupils

2. Buying 12 chairs and desks for teachers

3. Buying bookshelves

4. Buying a computers and printers

5. Painting school building

6. Buying a flat screen TV for teaching

7. Establishing piped water for the school.

8. Establishing Teaching Board

9. Creating school signs

10. Mending and rehabilitating damaged school buildings.
