Community Call to Action: Support Our Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (NCO)
Greensboro City Council approval is the next crucial step for our Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (NCO). While we’ve spent a year developing this plan to preserve our neighborhood's unique charm, we’re not guaranteed a unanimous vote from the Greensboro City Council. Your presence at this Tuesday evening's City Council meeting is vital to demonstrate our community's strong support for this initiative.
We encourage everyone living directly on West Friendly Avenue to display the new support signs. These signs symbolize our commitment to protecting a neighborhood home to families for over 100 years.
Let’s unite to ensure the continued protection and preservation of our neighborhood. Together, we can make a difference!
Your Attendance Matters: Your presence is more than just a show of numbers; it's a testament to the strength and unity of our community. Today, every one counts as we stand together to voice our concerns and hopes for our neighborhood.

Once upon a time, Friendly Avenue was a haven of tranquility, untouched by the clamor and congestion of high-density living. The charm of the old trees, the chirping of the birds, the laughter of children playing in the large backyards, the sense of space and community — these were the things that made our neighborhood home. However, today, this treasured landscape is under threat. A proposed rezoning seeks to replace the serenity we cherish with a multi-unit apartment complex, forever altering the character of our beloved avenue.
Watch the Fox 8 News coverage from Friday, August 11th, 2023 as the leading story for the community.
More news on Fox 8 News telling viewers that there are hundreds of concerned residents that will fight Glenn Drew’s proposed rezoning of West Friendly Avenue to multi-family apartments and want to keep the 70+ year neighborhood as it has been without large unwanted apartments that will only bring traffic issues, crime and change the look of the friendly neighborhood forever.

Imagine Friendly Avenue teeming with new tenants, each fighting for parking spaces, adding to the noise, and disrupting the peace we've come to love. Visualize our children playing less freely due to increased traffic, and the loss of our once serene walks along tree-lined streets. The threat is real, and time is against us.
But amidst this, we, the community, have a voice, a chance to fight back, to preserve the quality of life we've worked so hard to cultivate. The Friends of Friendly Committee, a group of your neighbors, has taken up the mantle to represent our collective interests, seeking legal counsel, and tirelessly advocating for our community's preservation.
However, this battle requires more than just spirit. We need resources to put up yard signs, flyers, and advertisements, and host informative community meetings. Our GoFundMe page is a way for each of us to contribute and ensure our voices are heard, our rights defended, and our neighborhood preserved.
Donating to our cause is not merely a contribution; it's an investment in the future of our community. It's a stand for the preservation of our cherished way of life, a testament to our collective resolve to protect Friendly Avenue. Every dollar donated takes us a step closer to our goal, amplifying our voice, fueling our efforts, and giving us the means to fiercely contest this proposed rezoning.
Support us today by making a donation on our GoFundMe page. Be a part of our fight. Let's ensure that Friendly Avenue remains the peaceful, family-friendly neighborhood we all fell in love with, both for us and the generations to come. Together, we can safeguard our neighborhood's charm, preserving the essence of Friendly Avenue.
This Fund is managed and maintained by three of the Friends of Friendly Committee and your donation will be used to further promote our cause to stop this unwanted rezoning.
