In late January of 2021, Hal Bush fell in his home and sustained injuries to his head. He remains in a coma and is being supported by his wife Hiroko and many friends and family.
Hal is the author of many books and articles, including:
--Continuing Bonds with the Dead: Parental Grief and Nineteenth-Century American Authors. (University of Alabama Press, 2016)
--The Mark Twain -- Joseph H. Twichell Letters. Co-edited and co-written with Peter Messent. (University of Georgia Press 2017)
--Above the American Renaissance: Continuing the Legacy of David Reynolds. Co-edited and Introduction co-written with Brian Yothers. (University of Massachusetts Press, 2018)
--Lincoln in His Own Time. (University of Iowa Press, 2011)
--Mark Twain and the Spiritual Crisis of His Age. (University of Alabama Press, January 2007)
--American Declarations: Rebellion and Repentance in American Cultural History. (University of Illinois Press, 1999)
and a novel called The Hemingway Files (2017).
More importantly, Hal is a dedicated teacher, good friend, and beloved member of many communities.
This fundraiser is to help Hal's wife Hiroko with the many expenses of caring for Hal as his brain heals.
