“It is easier to raise a child than it is to fix a broken man”-African Proverb.
We’ve all heard the horror stories that face our community. Senseless murders, domestic violence, fatherless homes, high drop-out rates, poverty and a crime-ridden KC is just an overview. The chances of our children, especially Black boys growing up to become productive citizens are lower than any other demographic in our society. Our boys have a target on their head, and we declare a STATE OF EMERGENCY!
It is more important than ever to address these problems head on. It takes a village to raise a child and Males to Men is playing our part, but we need the communities help!
Males to Men is a manhood training mentor program in Kansas City. The mission of Males to Men is to raise strong, conscious, productive young men and to develop accountable, responsible leaders in the Black Community. The program has been in existence for over five years and during that time we have had a positive influence on over 150 young men. Our program serves boys from 9 to 17 years of age. The program provides several services to the young men. First and foremost, we provide Black male bonding for the young Brothers. Many of these boys don’t have Black men in their lives to help them navigate through the obstacles that current society has placed in front of them to prevent them from growing into positive, productive adult Black males.
There are many areas that we cover and will continue to cover in Males to Men. We stress academic achievement for the boys. We have had sessions on health and nutrition, aquaponics, respect for women, African and African American history and culture, entrepreneurship, community economic development, exposure to various professionals, self-defense, science and technology, community service and many others.
You can help us reach our goal to expand our program. Additional funding will allow us to take the boys on educational tours, purchase more books for our library, acquire equipment for STEM activities, host Males to Men community events, develop M2M entrepreneurial enterprises, modernize our online presence, and create many more opportunities for the boys to grow and develop. All the mentors in the program have provided the bulk of our funding to date. To sustain and really grow the program, we need financial assistance from those in our community who appreciate what we do. We know that you care about the plight of young Black men and we know that not everyone can make the commitment to serve as a mentor. However, all of you can help us to do what we do. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
