FRIENDS OF SAM WILEY

Our dear friend Sam (Sammy) Wiley is in need of our help. In June 2023, Sam was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease and is currently in the process being listed for a kidney transplant. If you are interested in being tested to see if you are a match for a kidney donation, would like to donate a kidney on Sammy’s behalf, or just want to get more facts about kidney disease and living donations, please go to the following links for more information: www.kidneyregistry.org and www.unos.org

For those of you who know and love Sammy and want to to show your love and support, please consider a financial donation. We have started this go fund me page with the hopes of taking some of the financial burden off Sammy to help with daily living and medical expenses and to set some aside for his recovery once he receives his transplant.

Sam is the one of those people who is always there for everyone when they need help but isn't one to ask for help when he needs it. Due to his chronic kidney disease Sammy is currently taking some time off from working to manage his health. He often gets debilitating gout attacks which leaves him bed ridden. He is also experiencing chronic fatigue and must rest frequently. Sammy is doing his best to navigate this chronic disease dealing with numerous doctors visits and medical testing needed to get listed with transplant centers.

For those of you who are new acquaintances and do not know our friend as well as some of us, let me bring you up to speed.
Sammy just turned 54 in September. He was raised in Dover York County Pa, and graduated from Dover Area High School in 1988.

After high school he joined the Navy from 1988-1993 as a Hospital Corpsman stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda MD. During the Gulf War Sam was stationed at Naval Hospital Roosevelt Roads PR where he worked as an emergency room corpsman. After his active duty service he joined the Navy reserves for four years stationed out of Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Sammy worked in the laboratory collections dept. at Well Span Health from 1994 until 2000 and then went to work along side his brother at Continental Food Service Inc.
While in York he was a member of American Legion Post 791, Elks Lodge #213, and the York County Chamber of Commerce.

Sammy moved to Ocean City Maryland in 2016 and worked at Sello’s in West Ocean City, Oasis Bar & Grill in Whaleyville MD, and Rare & Rye in Ocean City. He was the post steward (General manager) at American Legion Post #166 from Jan.2018 – Nov.2022.

Sammy is very proud of his York county roots, his military service and his affiliation with the American Legion in Ocean City.
If you would like to help Sammy please share this post with anyone who might want to join us in helping our friend get healthy and back on his feet. Thank you.
