Friends of the Jake's Family

This winter, Jakes celebrated its 27th anniversary in Treasure Beach, Jamaica. For 27 years, guests just like yourselves have been able to come down to their sweet, small spot in the world and be treated truly like family. Because that's what we all are—The Jakes Family. We have come from all over the world to find the respite, relaxation, and soulfulness that Jakes has to offer.
The Jakes Family--this is also how the beloved Jakes team members of 147 hard-working men and women refers to themselves. These are the 147 permanent employees of Jakes who have worked lovingly and tirelessly for over two decades to make Jakes the very heartbeat of Treasure Beach.
It is with tremendous sadness and a sense of deep loss that Jakes had to give leave to these dedicated 147 people, the Jakes Family, for an undefined amount of time. We don't know how long this world crisis will last. Jakes has been a place of shelter in the chaos of modern life, and we know we will get back there again. What no one can control is when that may be. So while we all wait out this global health crisis in the safety of our homes, the Jakes Family of 147 dedicated team members will be doing so as well, but without their jobs.
In light of this, and with the support and appreciation of the Henzell family (who have seeded this fund), we have set up a staff relief fund so that Jakes’ beloved friends and guests—who often know the staff by first name (or by their smiles)—can contribute whatever we can to sustaining these 147 men and women. Each of the 147 permanent team members at Jakes will get an equal amount from what is so generously donated in order to provide a cushion during this uncertain time. This campaign will close on April 30th, a month after it was started. At that time the funds will be sent to Jakes where the funds will be formally and equally distributed among these 147 people.
No donation is too small, or as the Jamaican proverb puts it, “Every mickle mek a muckle.”
With gratitude, Friends of the Jakes Family
