Friends of the Learning Academy

This all began in the Spring of 2021 with a call from a former colleague. He knew of a Foundation that connected students from around the world. The Samuel Lawrence Foundation called and asked if we wanted to connect with a school in Afghanistan. As a student of history and a teacher of Humanities, there was only YES! So we started to meet every other week, through the summer.

Then the government fell and everything was turned upside down. Students who had just passed the Kankor (University entrance exam) had no where to go.  So my students demanded that we start a GoFundME to help Afghan girls continue their education! The high schools are about to reopen, but it is quite possible that half the student population will be missing. Missing but not silent students! The teaching and learning has not stopped, even under the threat of arrest and bombing- these students still come to learn!

THESE YOUNG WOMEN ARE UNWILLING TO  GIVE UP ON THEIR EDUCATION
AND YOU HAVE MADE SURE THE ACADEMY STAYS OPEN! 

 

There are after-school academies that still dedicate themselves to continue the education of young Afghan women. These schools are open, but at great risk. With your donation, we ARE keeping these schools open.  The public high schools are officially closed to girls until enough female teachers are recruited, trained and placed. That,  if we trust them. These learning academies are their only access to continuing education. Your donations will go for scholarship to girls who without your donation could not afford to come to class. Before the fall, there were at least 500 girls at the academy every day! Now only a 20 dare to come!

But if they had the courage to come.  They tells us what gets them up n the morning is knowing we have not forgotten them. Now students from San Diego are teaching them labs. He have translated the Afghan textbooks into English so we can tutor the students, carry out  labs- record them and them have the students study and carry them out at home. 

Donation will be sent in increments as not to raise suspicion. My suggestion is if you feel more comfortable about donating,  donations anonymously. The school has been vetted by GoFundMe. and they approved the means in which the money is transferred safely. If they will not give up, we can't give up on them! On behalf of all the students boys and girls, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

 

 

As one of the brave teachers said, "We will not fight them with guns, we will fight them with books, we will fight them with words!

 

Your donation will directly pay for the salaries of these brave teachers and staff.

 

 

 

 

I personally know these students and teachers. I speak with them securely on a daily basis. They get up in the morning because they knw that we care. Since this fundraiser started, we were only trying to keep them open for a few months. We now can not only keep the school open, hire a security guard, but school supplies and keep the faculty's families fed.   ALL BECAUSE OF YOUR HELP!
