Rich Magana and Family Story

Donation protected
Richard (Rich or Richie as many call him) Magana is known by everyone as the person who goes above and beyond not only in work but in friendships, family, and everyday acts of kindness. It’s what makes him so easy to love. You may know him as the nicest plumber/ HVAC professional you’ve ever met or as the co-owner of La Hacienda Meat and Grocery Market in Yonkers, NY. But most importantly he’s the most loving husband to his wife Tanyi (who’s his high school sweetheart meeting at New Rochelle High School in 1991) and the most incredible dad to his three children, Kristina, Thomas, and Sebastian.

Rich is the son of two Mexican immigrants. As a kid, he worked alongside his parents and 8 brothers and sisters picking oranges in Florida’s orange fields until they found their roots in New Rochelle, NY.

Rich is a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy and is always willing to take on a challenge with a whole lot of heart. During the pandemic, he and his brother Frankie decided to go for their American Dream of owning a family business and serving a taste of home and culture. While working their full-time day jobs in the trades, Rich and Frankie would work at night to build La Hacienda from the ground up.

Since opening the doors of La Hacienda in December 2021, Rich and Tanyi have become a staple in the community. They have greeted customers and welcomed them into a place in their hearts.

2022-2023 has been an extremely tough year for the family. In June 2022, Tanyi was diagnosed with Breast cancer. Rich as the most loving husband who was already working two jobs between AMX Cooling and Heating and running La Hacienda, never missed a beat in being there alongside Tanyi through surgery and radiation treatment. Right before the 2022 Christmas holiday, a large tree fell on the Magana’s property — totaling 4 cars and damaging parts of the home. Through it all, Rich never backed down. He was ready to take on the next day and fix the damage.

On Friday, February 24, Rich suffered cardiac arrest while closing for the night at La Hacienda, where Tanyi was luckily beside him and jumped into action. Rich was rushed to NY Presbyterian Hospital in Bronxville. Rich was intubated and put on a ventilator in the ICU. Incredible doctors and nurses have been working around the clock in the ICU and through the power of prayer, Rich is now breathing on his own. But his journey to recovery is long and requires an immense amount of support. The love of his life and three children who think the world of him is by his side each day in the ICU supporting him and reminding him that all will be OK. The road to recovery will be long but this family is full of strength thanks to a loving community of family, friends, and everyday neighbors.

Unfortunately, life’s circumstances are making it near impossible for Tanyi to support everything from home bills, medical bills, and up keeping La Hacienda (rent and utilities).

Every penny will help Tanyi and her children with less worry as they focus on Rich’s full recovery.

Your generosity is very much appreciated.
