Hi, my name is Katie Gattone. I've known Amy for several years and spent many hours volunteering with her. Anyone who knows the Kingan family knows they are private people. You also understand that Amy is the first to volunteer to help anyone! Thank you for taking the time to read more about Jake and his battle with osteosarcoma of the sacrum.
Jake is a fun-loving, athletic kid who thought he was dealing with a sports injury. Then, the family received the horrible news that it was not an injury but a tumor. Jake has been optimistic with such a great attitude as he spent the spring and summer managing 15 weeks of chemo and multiple tests and doctor appointments. The placement of Jake's tumor, which has not shrunk with chemo, has led to a loss of independent mobility. Jake will be having surgery soon to remove the cancer. After his long hospital/rehab stay (likely 30+ days), the family would like him to come home to an accessible first-floor bedroom and bathroom. This remodel will be costly, as will other aspects of Jake's care.
Let's do what we can to ease the family's stress and financial burden. No amount is too small. We know they would do the same for us. Please share this with those willing to help. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can give.
