Jody is the friend so many wish they had.
She is the loyal friend who never let you down. The jokester who always made you laugh. The one who helped to heal your hurt. The one who encouraged you to mischief then helped you get out of trouble. The one you could spend hours talking to about nothing. And everything.
Jody is a friend, mother and loving partner. Until recently, she was always a hard worker, but ALS has ended her career. There is no easy way to say this, but it is very likely that before long, ALS will also end her life.
ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It has also been referred to as Lou Gherig’s Disease. It is a condition that causes the death of motor neurons that control voluntary muscles. ALS is the disease that has afflicted physics genius Stephen Hawking.
There is no cure and no viable treatment for ALS.
Jody, who recently turned 56, was diagnosed with ALS August 3, 2016 and the disease is progressing. She has difficulty walking, her left arm barely works, and her speech has been affected. The average length of survival from onset of symptoms is a mere two to five years.
This GoFundMe is to raise awareness about our dear friend Jody, and to ask you to donate to help support her as the disease progresses. Part of the funds raised by this page will go to purchase an all-terrain wheel chair for Jody. A big, bad-ass four-wheel drive conveyance that can help Jody get back some semblance of the active life she has lived. Jody loved to spend time hiking with friends and dogs on Nose Hill, and we’d love to get her on the hill again.
