Auel for a Cure

Angie Auel was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in January 2012. After having several family members die from cancer, Angie had always said she would do something “different” if she had to treat cancer. And she did. She researched about some alternative treatments that were not available in the US, but were very successful. She found a cancer treatment center in Tijuana, Mexico called Oasis of Hope. Her breast cancer treatment there has been very successful. However, this past October, cancer was found around her kidney and in her intestine. Again, Angie is traveling to Oasis of Hope for treatment. One of the reasons this hospital is successful is the belief that healing must happen at multiple levels. Meaning your mental outlook and mental health plays an important role in your recovery. A cancer diagnosis is unquestionably life changing. That alone makes it difficult to maintain a positive frame of mind. Then, to factor in the financial aspect of this, which makes it beyond overwhelming. Oasis of Hope does not accept any insurance. Though their treatment is far more reasonable than medical treatment in the US, nonetheless, it is still costly and money her family does not have. She has traveled to Oasis of Hope five times. Each time leaving her three young daughters for a week or two and costing $10,000 to $15,000 per trip. Angie is a fighter and she will continue her fight against cancer and her treatments at Oasis of Hope.
