From Canada to the Amazon with Love
Donation protected
Out of the ashes of the tragic fires of last year, new growth and community gatherings are taking place at the Centro Huwã Karu Yuxibu in Acre, Brazil. In large part due to your generous support!! Much of the forest has been lost, but some trees survived and already the plants are growing back. So moved by the events that took place last year, the group of us who put this fundraiser together decided to travel to the center to show our support in person. Each one of us saved up and made the trip from our own savings, the entirety of your donations went to the center and rebuilding the infrastructure you see in the pictures. I am so honoured to bring you the messages of hope and deep gratitude from the people of the center! You are each one of you in their hearts and in their prayers. I learned a lot about gratitude while I was there. Its power to transform tragedy into hope. Its ability to heal and offer new perspective on life. Truly, words cannot express the thanks we all feel to every single donor. You helped make this happen! The fundraiser is still open, and we are still committed to sending all donations straight to the center as there is still so much that needs to be done. If you have not donated or know someone who might want to be a part of this amazing moment please share! Haux Haux and Thank You so much for your trust and support for this amazing community.
(French Version Follows)
We are a community of English and French Canadians who value and have great respect for indigenous cultures and ways of being. Inspired by the struggles on Turtle Island (North America) for indigenous sovereignty and self-determination, we strive to be respectful guests of the land we occupy and give back to our indigenous siblings around the world.
Mapu is an indigenous leader from the Huni Kui people who has been working with his father, Pajé Isaka Huni Kui since early adolescence. Mapu has been working to create the Centro Huwã Karu Yuxibu in Acre, Brazil, where he and his family welcome homeless indigenous people, offering them the opportunity to reconnect with their culture, traditions and healing.
This fundraiser was originally developed to help Mapu and his community buy their own land, having been ousted from their forest home due to aggressive neighbours and lack of support from the Brazilian government. The video explains how this Huni Kui community have set up a vital program to empower their displaced tribal members, young and old, by coming together to teach, learn and live as a self-sustaining community and focused on preserving their unique and sensitive ecosystem.
Tragically, the community’s new property was recently ravaged by one of the Amazonian fires currently raging and amid evidence that many of these fires have been intentionally started to deforest and clear the land for cattle and crops.
Your support is now needed more urgently, to help them plant and rebuild their community. Please donate what you can and please also share this link with your friends and family.

With your support, Mapu and his community can bounce back and restore this area from the devastation that has set their home and their beautiful project back. Resilience against the industry-related destruction of this precious forest starts with cleaning the area, planting, and nurturing the land back to health - because there simply is no other option.
Let us all play our part in the Eagle and Condor prophesies. Let us come together with our hearts and our minds together as one. Please donate and share this message. The Huni Kui project in Acre, North Brazil, is here to stay and we thank you for your support.
