From Coma to Hope: Let's Bring Sally Back Home.
Donation protected
On August 30th, Sally was in a devastating bike accident that caused a severe traumatic brain injury. She was in a coma for months. Unable to return her husband's squeeze as he held her hand. Or speak her children's names.
Today, Sally's regained her voice, putting words together in full sentences. Sometimes smiling. Even laughing. Sally's relearning how to walk. She holds on to something she could barely muster a few months ago: Hope.
There will be years of painstaking neuro-rehabilitation to regain her mobility, her speech, her wonderfully wicked sense of humor. It will be challenging, frustrating, and expensive, as only quality neuro-rehabilitation can be.
And because Sally's a fighter, we need to get in the fight, too.
Time is of the essence. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "Rehabilitation interventions should be initiated as soon as the condition of the person with traumatic brain injury allows." (INESSS-ONF, 2015) Every dollar donated will go directly toward her care, including:
• Complex care residential treatment expense
• Active neuro-rehabilitation and physical therapy
• Specialized equipment and home adjustments
Whether you can donate or share her story, every act of kindness brings us one step closer to giving Sally the best chance at recovery.
So let's #Rally4Sally. The Sally who's wonderfully, wickedly funny. Fiercely independent. The loving mother who raised sons Justis and Jacob in a leafy neighborhood in Toronto. The audacious New Yorker who, decades ago, danced all night with Michael at their wedding. The beautiful soul who supports her friends and students. And helps random strangers. Who loves with all her heart ... and rides her bike to work.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and thank you for being part of her journey. If you contribute, we promise to update you with Sally's progress...until she's able to tell you herself.
That is our greatest hope.
With love,
Michael, Justis, and Jacob
