From our hearts to the heart of Lebanon

In the wake of the violent explosions hitting the port of Beirut on Tuesday, 4 August 2020, we are appealing for assistance through the FamVin Homeless Alliance on behalf of the suffering people in Beirut.
The Lebanese Vincentian Family has sprung into action since day one to take care of the poorest: heal the wounded, feed the needy, and shelter the homeless.
Here is an account of the situation from a member of the Family in Beirut:
"In 2020, in addition to the pandemic that hit the entire world, the Lebanese people have survived the poverty, the tragic devaluation of the currency, the unemployment, and the corruption rooted in its political system since 30 years till date.
Everything was somehow controllable, and the resilient Lebanese people were still standing, until last Tuesday, the 4th of August 2020, when an explosion hit the heart of Lebanon, Beirut, whether accidentally or on purpose.
In this explosion, the death toll rises to 220, more than 7000 injured, 110 missing, and 80,000 houses damaged. The nightmare wouldn't be that bad.
My fiancee and I were in Achrafieh, around 3 km away; we were also wounded. We went to many hospitals in the region, they were either destroyed or full of wounded people.
Beirut, the city of Love and beauty, went through its toughest day, a black day that will remain engraved in our memories. But as you know or you might not know, Beirut has been destroyed and rebuilt 7 times.
It is not by coincidence that Pope John Paul II once said "Lebanon is more than a nation, more than a country. It is a message."
NGOs, men, women and children went to Beirut to help remove debris, to stand by their homeless compatriots, and give them homes to sleep in.
Beirut will rise again. The solidarity and compassion of its people will rebuild Beirut. As long as the sun rises, Beirut shall not die. Beirut will never die."
- Said Safar (St. Vincent de Paul Society, Beirut)
Please help us support their efforts at this urgently critical time.
