From the world to Bangladeshi Students
Donation protected
This is an AMANAT (trusted/secure deposit) and will be treated as such!
Not affiliated with any political parties in Bangladesh.
This is the Fundraiser of the students, by the students, for the students.
- Where/How these funds are going? We have Students group in Dhaka (comprised of Dhaka University students) that we use as trusted partners on the ground – who help collect and fact check patients’ data from various hospitals in Dhaka, the capital. We have various app group chats among students where we talk /share the data. Our list of donee (via link) will be available for the public. If you want to donate in bulk – please reach out to the founder – Mon Rahman. A lot of independent groups have verified, fact checked our channels and that the funds are going directly to the patients in need. We have also worked with various doctors, intern doctors at Dhaka Medical College while paying for their medications and care.
- August 15, 12pm EDT: More than 13 Lakhs BDT have been donated to patients in Pongu Hospital (NITOR) - including ICU patients, their specialty pharmacy medications - please check proof of receipt from Patients side on google sheets under ‘Shabil.’ We have lists of more people that need significant help from us, please keep sharing.
- August 10, 12pm EDT: Funds are being sent to Bangladesh to directly help injured students, street vendors and other patients who can’t afford care. Donations have been directed to Dhaka Medical College to patients who can’t afford post-surgical specialty pharmacy medications. Donations have been directed to Pongu Hospital in the capital of Dhaka.
- July 30, 12 pm EDT: Banking channels have opened but we are not sending money that strengthens this government’s grip on the people. We have sent money to help in first aid, medical aid, payoff hospital bills, buying food, water for the injured and general students participating. We have also received requests to help some daily wage earners to get access to food and groceries. We have extended our aid to them as well. Now, we are strictly looking to help payoff hospital bills for injured students.
- July 19, 12pm EDT: Because of Financial Institutions, Banks, mobile banking services like bKash, Rocket, Nagad restrictions in Bangladesh, we are borrowing cash at ground level by sharing GoFundMe Screenshots and updates so that when we ARE able to send these funds, we can pay the creditors back! So, the more money we collect, the more injured students we can help! But our local support is Bangladesh has been overwhelming! We will maintain transparency here to uphold the trust of our donors.
Context: Bangladesh, a peace-loving developing country in South Asia, faces significant challenges in creating jobs for the many students who graduate each year. Historically, only 46% of government jobs were open to the general public, with the rest reserved under various quotas. This system has caused extreme dissatisfaction among graduates for years, leading to widespread protests and calls for reform.
In 2018, students bravely took to the streets, demanding a fair and just system, only to face severe repression. Despite the crackdown, their voices were heard, and the Legislature initially scrapped the quotas. However, the High Court recently declared the removal of quotas illegal, reinstating the old system earlier this month.
In response, students have resumed their peaceful protests. Tragically, the situation has escalated dramatically. The Prime Minister expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the students, and the ruling party’s student wing, the Chatro League, along with the local police departments, brutally attacked the protesting students. This has led to immense violence, resulting in numerous injuries and tragic deaths.
As of July 17th, over 100 students have been shot dead, and thousands more have been injured. As of July 30th, more than 250 students and mass have been killed, and tens of thousands injured.
- Why this fundraiser: We are organizing this fundraiser to help the injured students in Bangladesh receive the medical attention they desperately need due to the Quota movement that turned violent when the ruling regime attacked the unarmed students. The funds will be transferred to trustworthy parties in different cities across Bangladesh to ensure that the help reaches those in dire need. Since then the ruling party has resigned but we need funds for the medical care of the injured ones.
We would be deeply grateful for any support you can provide. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign to raise awareness and send help to students in need. Every share, every dollar counts, and together, we can make a difference.
Grateful for the support
