Wollongong Kids to World Robotics Championships!

Donation protected
In a workshop sweltering in the Australian summer, a team of Wollongong high-school students are building a 55 kg robot from scratch. They are preparing for the Championships in Houston, Texas - where they will compete in front of 35,000 people against the best teams in the world!

Your donation will help them get there!

We are Project Bucephalus, a team of 42 high-school students that compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition - an international STEM competition.

In 2022, Project Bucephalus reached the World Championships in Houston, competing against 450 international teams. We were over the moon to take home the Engineering Inspiration Award - an award given to only SIX teams each year, recognising outstanding success in STEM Education. It also earns the recipient team an invite to the next Championships in the following year!

Attending the 2023 Championships is a fantastic opportunity for a group of dedicated and hard-working students - but one that will cost a lot. Project Bucephalus is a self-funded community team, made up of ordinary kids from ordinary Wollongong families. International travel is totally out of reach for many of them. These students have worked incredibly hard to get this far and deserve to take up the opportunity. We need help to get the kids on the plane!

That's why we're asking for your generosity. ANY donation will be gratefully accepted. All funds are transferred directly to the Project Bucephalus team and will be used to offset the following expenses:

  • Tournament Registration Fee ($7,500)
  • Shipping the Robot ($8,000)
  • Individual Flights ($3,500 per person)

All other expenses such as food and accommodation are being covered by the families.

Please also note that families who are able to do so are covering all their costs.

What's the FRC?
The FRC is an international Robotics competitionfor High School students. Each year, teams have 6 weeks to design, build and program a 55 kg robot to play a different challenging game. The 2022 Season was called "Rapid React" - check out Project Bucephalus (team #5985) in action below!

Engineering Inspiration?
Engineering Inspiration is the first international-level FRC award for Project Bucephalus. The Award is a recognition of the countless hours the team puts into community STEM education, particularly programs for those that would normally miss out. Check out the team’s award-winning Chairman’s Video from 2022 to get a feel for the team’s achievements.

Thank you for reading our story, we hope that you have been inspired by the enormous capability of our children.

Please Contact Us if you would like to make a significant donation or possibly partner with the team!

Finally, the best way to support the Project Bucephalus students is to register to attend our robotics programs. Classes are run throughout the Illawarra and Shoalhaven for all ages. Participating in these programs helps the team financially and allows the teenagers in Project Bucephalus to extend their impact through mentoring and inspiring other kids.
