Help Ren Get Top Surgery!

My name is Ren (he/they) and I'm trans! I'm starting this fundraiser to raise money for my gender affirming top surgery

A little bit about me; I work for a couple daycares doing marketing and administrative work. I’m also an artist who works in photography, animation, and textiles/garments. I love to study folk art and am also super into fashion history. For fun, I like to roller skate, hike, and do trivia with friends!

Why top surgery? Top surgery is something that I have thought about for a long time. I have had chest dysphoria since starting puberty at around 10 years old and since then I have wished that my chest would just go away but I never knew that top surgery existed as an option until much later in life. I’ve been using binders and tape regularly since I came out publicly as trans a few years ago, but because I have a large chest neither is a perfect solution and both cause me a great deal of physical pain in addition to the general dysphoria I feel.

As someone who expresses himself through fashion, I also would love to have the opportunity to be able to wear things like tank tops and tight clothing post top-surgery without worrying about my chest, binder, or tape showing!

I struggle to put into words how much getting top surgery would mean to me. It is both a life-changing and life-saving procedure for me that would offer me much mental and physical relief. It would help me live life fuller and would allow me to get out more, be more social, and be able to be more physically active among other things. But most importantly, getting top surgery would allow me to be more confident and at home in my body, enabling me to show up better for all the wonderful, important people in my life!

Why a GoFundMe: As many of you know, top surgery is a very expensive procedure. As it stands right now, my insurance will likely not cover the full cost of the procedure (it is much more likely that they will not cover any part of the cost) and/or I will lose insurance altogether before I can access care (I will post insurance and appointment updates as they arise).

I wish I could finance this entirely on my own, as asking others for support is difficult for me, but I’ve realized that despite my efforts to save up and fundraise it might take many years for me to raise enough.

With your help, these funds will be used for the surgery itself and any pre/post op appointments and medical materials that I will need for recovery.
